Medical Assistant Course - Island CPR

Individuals trained as a Medical Assistant have jobs waiting for them in doctors offices and clinics.  Once trained, students work directly under a healthcare provider and are able to help with blood draws, taking patient histories, vitals, filling in charts, insurance paperwork, other tech skills and customer service.

Course details

IslandCPR Medical Assistant program is a hybrid program where students complete pre-recorded lectures, answer questions as they watch each lecture, and then email the answers for credit.  The course includes 13 lectures on medical terminology and 54 chapters on Medical Assistant clinical and administrative content.  

Students are expected to complete 5-7 chapters per week with a minimum of 3 chapters per week required to maintain good standing. 

Following the medical terminology chapters (13) and the first 25 medical assistant chapters, students complete Lab 1, which is a seven-hour live lab.  This usually occurs seven weeks into the program. 

Student will then complete the remaining chapters for MA (29 chapters) before completing Labs 2 and 3, at weeks 12 and 13 of their course, completing the class within 3 months.

FAQs

When can I register?

Any time! This is a self-paced course that allows you the flexibility to start when you can. Please see the 2026 Lab schedule to help you plan your start date.

What do I need to do before class?

Students taking our LIVE course must pick up and read and complete the first 10 chapters of their Kinn's Medical Assistant textbook. For students unable to pick up their textbook we do offer: E-book option (note that if this is chosen you will not receive a hardcopy textbook), and we can ship to you for $25 (plus tax)

How do I pass this course?

1) You must attend all classes (any missed labs must be made up at a fee of $35 per hour.  Any missed lecture days must be made up by watching self paced lectures and turning in assignments.  If a student misses more than 2 classes they will be removed from class). 
2) Complete all assignments by the instructor (submit at least 3 chapters per week)
3) Complete all in classroom quizzes 
4) Complete all 3 labs 
5) Complete your final exam with an 80% or better and in person skills test.

Am I guaranteed a job after completion?

While we cannot guarantee job placement after completion of the course, we can still help! We maintain a database of employers who are looking to hire medical assistants statewide!
