What is Medical Coding? 

Medical Coding is where treatments, tests, procedures and diagnoses from patient records are converted to codes to bill insurance companies and patients for reimbursements.
 
Who should take this course? 

This class is designed for individuals with prior knowledge and/or training in medical billing & coding with anatomy/physiology medical terminology.


Don't have a background or training? We suggest you start within IslandCPR's Medical Assistant or Nurse Aide course!  


What will you learn? 
 
This course gives you an overview in 

  • Reimbursement:  HIPAA and compliance processes, with information on connections between coding and reimbursement.

  • ICD-10-CM: Learn the codes and their use in medical coding.  

  • CPT & HCPCS:  In-depth explanation of the sections found within the CPT and HCPCS code set. This course breaks down codes you will need by organized body systems, the class includes a review of important information about anatomy, terminology, and various procedures, as well as demonstrations and examples of how to code each service.

  • Inpatient Coding: You will learn how to report facility services provided to patients in acute inpatient facilities and the reporting of these services with ICD-10-PCS procedure codes.
 
This program is designed to be the first step in your coding career and includes many unique features to help you along the way!

Upcoming courses / Class details:

This course is IslandCPR's first fully self paced online course*!!  What does this mean?? What does this look like??

Registration is ANYTIME!!  When you are ready to start you start and go through the course at your own pass with the only requirement that you MUST finish the course with in 3 months of your start date.  We suggest you plan to complete 2 chapters per week at a minimum. 

How the course works:
To register is a $350 (plus tax) which gets you your textbook, workbook and first 10 recorded lectures.  Your second payment of $300 is due to get your next 10 chapters and final payment due for the last of your chapters and final exam.  Total cost $995 plus tax. 

How do I pass the course?
To pass:
1) You must watch all recorded lectures.  Each lecture will have questions you will need to answer and email your answers to your instructor. 
2) Answer all questions within recorded lectures and email them to the instructor
3) Complete all assignments by the instructor
4) Complete all quizzes with an 80% or better - These are sent out at certain bench marks within the course.  You will have 72 hours to complete the quiz once assigned. 
5) Complete your final exam with an 80% or better and in person skills test.
